چکیده

It is well established that soybean products contain the phytoestrogens daidzein and genistein. 1-3 We have measured the levels of these compounds in several soy-based infant formulas available in New Zealand. The quantities recommended by manufacturers for infant feeding provide an intake (per kg body weight) of approximately three to five times as much daidzein and genistein than amounts which disrupt the menstrual cycle when fed to pre-menopausal women 4 . Exposure to phytoestrogens during soy-formula feeding is cause for considerable concern given the greater susceptibility of neonates to oestrogens and the likely duration of exposure through infancy.

Diverse Effects of Phytoestrogens on the Reproductive Performance: Cow as a Model

Phytoestrogens, polyphenolic compounds derived from plants, are more and more common constituents of human and animal diets. In most of the cases, these chemicals are much less potent than endogenous estrogens but exert their biological effects via similar mechanisms of action. The most common source of phytoestrogen exposure to humans as well as ruminants is soybean-derived foods that are rich...

Phytoestrogens by inhibiting the non-classical oestrogen receptor, overcome the adverse effect of bisphenol A on hFOB 1.19 cells

Objective(s): Since bisphenol A (BPA) induces bone loss and phytoestrogens enhance the osteoblastogenesis by binding to the non-classical and classical oestrogen receptors, respectively, the present study was aimed to observe the osteoprotective effect of phytoestrogens on BPA-induced osteoblasts in hFOB 1.19 cells.Materials and Methods:...

COMMITTEE ON TOXICITY OF CHEMICALS IN FOOD, CONSUMER PRODUCTS AND THE ENVIRONMENT Review of potential risks from high levels of soy phytoestrogens in infant diet

1. The COT has been asked to consider aspects related to the toxicity of chemicals in the infant diet, in support of a review by the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN) of Government recommendations on complementary and young child feeding. An initial paper (TOX/2012/03), highlighting some of the areas requiring consideration was discussed by the COT in February, 2012. Members agr...

Soy, phytoestrogens and their impact on reproductive health.

There is growing interest in the potential health threats posed by endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) to the reproductive system. Soybean is the most important dietary source of isoflavones, an important class of phytoestrogen. While consumption of soy food or phytoestrogen supplements has been frequently associated with beneficial health effects, the potentially adverse effects on developme...
